Collins, London. 1961 Junior Edition. Malta was in dire straits and in desterate need of supplies. Fourteen merchant ships were utilized to transport the much need supplies (and war munitions). To protect the merchant ships an armada of two battleships, four aircraft carriers, twelve cruisers and forty destroyers - thus was the value of the cargo. Lying in wait were twenty one German submarines, twenty-three E-Boats and five-hundred and forty enemy aircraft. The ensuing battle is recorded here. Shelf worn.
