Dublin Chamber of Commerce, 1983 . The Dublin Chamber of Commerce was established on February 10, 1783, It traces its origin to the Ouzel Galley Society, formed in 1705 and taking its name from a merchant ship which set sail from Ringsend, Dublin in 1695 and was eventually presumed lost, only to reappear in her home port in 1700 laden with pirate loot, The cargo formed the subject of protracted litigation as to its ownership, and it was to solve the dilemma that a group of city merchants formed themselves into a body of arbitrators independent of the law, subsequently established as the Ouzel Galley Society, From this society there developed a Committee of Merchants, set up in 1761, which in its turn evolved into the Dublin Chamber of Commerce.
