Angus and Robertson. Sydney 1957. 1st Edition. In October 1940 the tanker 'San Demetrio' carrying a full cargo of petrol, sailed for the Clyde from Halifax, Nova Scotia, in convoy with thirty six other ships under the protection of the armed escort vessel 'Jervis Bay'. Early in November, half way across the North Atlantic, the convoy was attacked by the German Battleship 'Admiral Scheer' which sank the escort and five other ships and set the 'San Demetrio' on fire - what happened after this was the stuff of real heroics - the subject of this fine volume. Original slightly foxed dust jacket has a small bit torn out. Blue gilt stamped cloth covered end boards. 127pp. 202 mm x 130 mm.
