LAST ITEM HELD MATCHING THIS TITLE STATED:

River House - Heineman Educational Australia Pty Ltd, Melbourne 1968. The Africaine was the first ship to bring paying immigrants to South Australia. She was a barque of some 300 tons, and carried a crew of seventeen and about eightv passengers. She had, by the standards of I836, a smooth passage. So much for the bones of the story. The flesh is provided by the journals and letters of her passengers, very real human beings who, for various reasons, left their homes in England and set sail for a new life in South Australia. Why did they come, what did they expect, and what did they find? The extracts give, if not a complete answer, at least a vivid glimpse of an answer. Tape marked and trimmed down dust jacket . Ex King's Library. Good condition. 174pp. 203 x 130 mm
