LAST ITEM HELD MATCHING THIS TITLE STATED:

The Springwood Press, 1939. 1st edition. Hardcover (cloth). Fine condition/no dustjacket. This is the true First Edition of this title, (NUMBERED #73/120) and signed in ink by Lindsay. Not to be confused with the relatively common first TRADE edition of same publisher and date, of which 1850 were published. This book is scarce, and is rarely sighted on the Internet or at auction, known copies being tightly held. This copy is absolutely flawless t/out except for a slight acid shadow at the very back where the Prospectus was formerly stored (rear ep), and has been protected throughout its life by glass paper sheets. Also offered is the scarce PROSPECTUS issued by Lindsay and his son who set up The Springwood Press (this is its first publication). The Prospectus for the book is same size as the book (12.5" x 10") and contains one of the 18 tipped in plates as an exhibition piece. This copy has Plate number 3, "Belshazzar". The Prospectus states as follows: "This Edition is strictly as follows: A Collector's Edition of 120 copies printed on hand-made paper and specially bound: numbered and signed by the artist.. Price 4 Guineas. A Standard Edition of 1,850 copies on specially milled Strathmore paper on which this Prospectus is printed, identical withy the size intended for the book. Price 2 Guineas." The book was printed by Arthur McQuitty & Co at 67 Regent Street, Sydney, Australia; on Georgian heavy-weight pure rag paper made by the Worthy Paper Co, USA. Book comes with original purple slipcase, which is worn at extremities and has slight fading around edges. A very scarce item indeed, and a must for any serious Lindsay collector. One of a recently purchased Norman, Lionel & Jack Lindsay Collection, including several very scarce titles.
