Quick Tips For Successful Searching on BibliOZ

TIP #1: Try using only the main words from a book title and only the author's last name to maximise your successful search results
Like most computer searching and matching systems, remember the saying: LESS is MORE and MORE is LESS. BibliOZ will try to match ALL the words you enter. So by using fewer words in an author's name or a book title, you will get more matches. Of course if you use too few words then many of the matches will be irrelevant.

The more words you use in your search, and the more fields you enter data in, the more precise the matching and the fewer results are returned.

TIP #2: If you receive too many incorrect matches, add more words from the title or the author's first initial with an asterisk(*) after it. BibliOZ will only locate books that exactly match the spelling of the search term you have entered.

TIP #3: Try searching on terms that are less likely to have been mispelled during data entry or try using alternative spellings that might apply.

TIP #4: Experiment with other keywords to search on as different dealers will use different terms
Keywords are attributed to a book by the supplier bookseller, not by BibliOZ

TIP #5: The data entry is done by the supplier bookseller so remember to try both American and British/Australian versions of terms or the spelling of words.
Capitalization and punctuation is not so important to get right when entering your search terms but spelling definitely is a critical factor.

TIP #6: Use Power Search to choose items to buy that have a Book Location in the same country or nearby to your delivery destination as this will help minimise freight costs
BibliOZ finds books from all over the world and the price of freight will vary depending on your destination. Power Search enables you to sort listings by the country where the book is located. Searches using this option can be a little slower to run.

TIP #7: Unless you require the book in a specific edition or condition, don't use the attribute fields as they can slow down the search. Having said that, these fields are useful if there are too many matches returned
While you can use Power Search to select many other attributes such as Publisher, Binding, Dust Jacket, Signed etc. these fields are all optional. If a particular publisher is wanted then only use one main word from the publisher's name.

TIP #8: Use the Price Range feature in PowerSearch to limit the results returned and use the Sort Price feature to help organise the results
PowerSearch enables you to give a price range to search on but this is an approximation only because currency conversions have to be calculated by the system. If you also use TIP #6 on showing Book Location then these together will help you keep within your spending budget. Other search tips include:

TIP #9: Click on the book title to get a detailed description of the book. Use the Lookup command button to define any terms or abbreviations. The "About Books" link in the left side navigation menu also give the most common abbreviations

TIP #10: If you are certain of the book title try using double-quotes (" ") around the term you enter to further restrict matches just to that exact phrase and no other combination of the words. A trailing wildcard (*) can be used when you are uncertain of the spelling or the precise book title or author eg. Court* in the author field will return all of "Courtney", "Courtenay" "Courts" "Courtly" etc. There are radio buttons underneath the Title field in the PowerSearch form that can also be used to vary the way a search is done.

Happy Hunting!
